alternative fuel prices in South America
CNG price in South America in
In general, the consumption of natural gas in South America has grown strongly in its relatively short history. In Argentina, it started in 1984, and in some countries the share of CNG vehicles has already reached 20% of the total number of vehicles. This growth has fluctuated considerably in recent years.
With the worst air quality in South American cities and the high volatility of crude oil prices in international markets, the demand for alternative fuel vehicles is increasing throughout the continent, and in some countries the interest is very high .
The market is being driven by factors such as the use of CNG, which helps control carbon dioxide emissions into the environment compared to conventional fuels such as diesel and gasoline; the governments of the region are promoting CNG vehicles by granting financial aid for the conversion of conventionally powered vehicles to CNG; and increased spending on infrastructure development such as gas stations.
The low price of CNG, which reduces the cost per kilometer travelled, is encouraging more and more vehicle users, particularly taxi drivers, to switch from conventional fuel vehicles to natural gas ones. For example, in the first three weeks of November 2018, the price of a cubic meter of LNG was, on average, 35% lower than that of a liter of gasoline.
