In Spain the development of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling stations network has been slow compared to other neighbouring countries, but nowadays the presence on high traffic roads is beginning to be noticeable.
In the beginning the development was carried out by new players in the refuelling station business, but it was when the big companies in the sector started to develop their supply network that the presence of CNG vehicles on Spanish roads started to be noticeable.
With Repsol and Cepsa being the main players in the refuelling business in Spain, the development of their respective supply networks invited large transport companies and individuals to purchase natural gas vehicles.
On the other hand, the Spanish economy has focused heavily on natural gas consumption, being the country in Europe with the largest natural gas regasification infrastructure and preferential agreements with producer countries such as Algeria.
In Spain there are currently 107 CNG refueling stations open to the public, with many projects in the pipeline.
