Already in 2018, the number of natural gas vehicles in China reached the figure of 6.7 million, with increases of 10% per year compared to the previous year, of which CNG vehicles are the main one, with more than 6 million vehicles. Since 2013, the number of natural gas vehicles in China has been increasing, but the growth rate has slowed down.

As for gas service stations, their distribution in China is uneven. In general, they are mainly distributed in Xinjiang and Sichuan, coastal cities or provinces, and cities near major gas pipelines. As of 2018, the number of natural gas filling stations in China has passed the 9,000 mark, including more than 5,600 CNG filling stations.

The initial purchase cost of natural gas vehicles in China is higher than traditional fuel vehicles, but when the oil to gas price ratio is around 0.5, the cost can be recouped in one year, and more fuel costs can be saved in the future. CNG taxis can save fuel throughout the year.

Like the gasoline engine, the natural gas engine is also based on spark ignition technology. Compared with the conventional gasoline vehicle, the main advantage of the CNG vehicle is its low fuel cost. Normally, the fuel cost of the CNG vehicle is 20% to 40% lower than the gasoline vehicle, depending on the CNG and gasoline prices.
