Refilling Stations in China
LPG Stations in China in
China's LPG consumption grew rapidly, albeit unevenly, between 2000 and 2014, in line with the rapid increase in autogas use.
Autogas is mainly used in taxis and buses. Hyundai, Toyota, Sanatan, Kia, Zhonghua, Englon and Nissan sell OEM taxis, while GAC Group, Zhengzhou Yutong Bus Company, King Long, Ankai and Wuzhoulong Motors sell LPG-powered buses. There are about 30 conversion centres in Guangzhou. In China, autogas accounts for only 0.3% of total vehicle fuel. At the end of 2018, there were approximately 160,000 autogas vehicles and 560 refuelling points in Guangzhou province
The autogas market in China has emerged largely due to local programmes to promote alternative fuels and motivation to address the growing problem of urban air pollution. Autogas programmes, first developed in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, are now being implemented in more than 25 cities. In Guangzhou, 90 per cent of the city's 19,000 taxis and 8,000 buses had switched to the fuel by 2010.
Following the experience of other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, the city of Guangzhou began exploring the use of autogas in the mid-1990s, and after 1997 some taxis and buses converted to the fuel. Due to worsening air pollution, it was decided to convert most of the bus and taxi fleet to autogas; by 2010, all but 5% of public transport vehicles were running on autogas. There are currently 42 filling stations in the city, most of them operated by private and foreign companies. Initially, subsidies were granted for the conversion of vehicles to autogas.
China currently has an extensive network of filling stations in all provinces of the country offering LPG to the public.
