LPG Stations in India in

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is identified as one of the alternative fuels to regular liquid fuels. LPG, a mixture of propane and butane, remains liquefied at normal room temperature and moderate pressure. It is a safe, clean burning, reliable fuel with high calorific value. It is a cleaner fuel for automotive transportation than traditional fuels such as gasoline and diesel. It is one of the least polluting fuels currently available in the country and is playing an important role in India's transition from traditional fuel sources to more efficient and cleaner fuels.

About 2.5 million LPG vehicles are currently on Indian roads. South India leads the way, with nearly 200,000 vehicles running on LPG in and around Bangalore, 150,000 in and around Hyderabad and 120,000 in and around Chennai.

The higher demand in the southern states has been largely influenced by subsidies initially provided by several state governments to promote the use of LPG for cars. The fact that these vehicles require little maintenance, are fuel efficient and easy to refill has also found favour with owners in cities like Bangalore.

In India there are currently 907 filling stations offering LPG for sale to the public, spread across every province in the country.
