Spain is the European country with the largest number of natural gas regasification terminals and, therefore, has one of the most diversified and reliable natural gas supplies in the world. Regasification plants are one of the main gateways to the Spanish natural gas system and a key platform in the global LNG market.

The Government of Spain has made a firm commitment to LNG as an alternative for road transport and there are many projects underway in this regard, such as the European project Blue LNG Corridors, which is an initiative to promote natural gas in trucks in certain European freight corridors. 27 companies and associations from 11 different countries participate in it. Its objective is to consolidate industry knowledge and bring together stakeholders in the development of natural gas vehicles and LNG infrastructure to develop key corridors in Europe. The installation of 14 LNG stations (or a combination of LNG and CNG) is planned and the Santa Perpetua station is the first station in Spain that is part of the Blue Corridors LNG project.

Liquefied Natural Gas in Spain is booming in the transport sector because the use of gas as fuel for trucks and heavy-duty cars has a positive impact on the environment: it reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by a 80-85%, those of sulfur oxides (SOx) in almost 100% and those of particles during braking in 95%. It also emits 20% less carbon dioxide (CO2) and reduces noise pollution.
