Renewable Diesel HVO Price in Sweden in
Sweden has a state aid approval for a tax reduction for highly blended biofuels (highly blended fuel is one in which the majority of the fuel consists of renewable content, for example, for diesel the limit is 98%). This means that currently tax-exempt fuels, such as HVO100, are subject to the carbon dioxide and energy tax.
If the HVO100 starts to be taxed, the prices at the fuel pumps will be completely different from the current ones. For example, HVO100 currently costs slightly more than regular diesel, even though HVO100 is a fuel exempt from carbon dioxide and energy taxes. This is because the production cost of HVO100 is higher than that of normal diesel.
The EU wants to eliminate the tax reduction for biofuels because it does not want them to compete with crops intended for human or animal food. Today, many biofuels are produced from raw materials such as corn, rapeseed and sugar. The EU wants to reorient biofuels so that they are manufactured from waste and residual products, on which HVO100 already relies heavily today. One of the main producers of HVO100, for example, has around 75% waste and residue in its product. Otherwise, HVO100 can be composed of rapeseed oil, fish oil, corn oil, palm oil and tall oil.
In January 2024 the average price of HVO 100 in Sweden was 22.79 kr/l, maintaining a small difference with respect to traditional diesel that does not exceed 10%.

News about the price of HVO 100 in Sweden
- January 1, 2024
The time has finally come to make the electoral promises of a lower obligation to use biofuels a reality. At midnight, Sweden moved from the exceptionally strict requirement of 30.5% biofuel content for diesel to the EU minimum level of 6%.
It may take some time for the new price level to settle, but immediately at midnight OKQ8 reduced the pump price for diesel by SEK 4.39 per liter for diesel and SEK 1.07 per liter for gasoline. The new prices are 17.77 for diesel (B0 and B7) and 17.37 for gasoline (E10). Prices apply at service stations and include VAT. The price of HVO100 biofuel fell as much as that of diesel, measured in cents, to 22.98 SEK per litre.
