Evolution since the First Hydrogen Station

The first hydrogen filling station in Spain open to the public was inaugurated in 2019 in Albacete. This milestone marked the beginning of a sustained effort by the government and private companies to promote the use of clean energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Since then, the network of hydrogen filling stations has grown gradually, with new openings in key cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Valencia. In recent years, hydrogen infrastructure in Spain has experienced significant growth. By 2024, Spain has more than 25 operational hydrogen service stations, strategically distributed in key points of the country. This growth has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as funding from the European Union through various sustainable development programs.

The future of hydrogen service stations in Spain looks promising. By 2025, the number of stations is expected to double, reaching at least 50 facilities throughout the country. This growth is aligned with the objectives of the National Hydrogen Strategy, which seeks to position Spain as a leader in the green hydrogen market in Europe.
