Koenigsegg has unveiled a new mega-car, the Koenigsegg Jesko, at the Geneva International Motor Show. Jesko inherits the baton left by the Agera RS as the premier track and road car for those seeking the ultimate in vehicle performance.
Jesko is named after Jesko von Koenigsegg, the father of company founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg.
Jesko von Koenigsegg was a key presence at Koenigsegg Automotive during its formative years. His considerable business acumen helped steer the company through many early challenges. Now retired and in his 80s, Jesko von Koenigsegg and his wife, Brita, were on hand at the Geneva Motor Show to see their namesake vehicle introduced to the world.
Koenigsegg founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg:
"The new Koenigsegg Jesko is the largest production volume we have ever planned. The fact that it has sold out within days of its unveiling is both a responsibility and a wonderful gift to the excellent team we have at Koenigsegg. From the visionary work of our designers, engineers and technicians to the incredible work done by our sales team and our global network of Koenigsegg dealers - it took a great team to bring the Jesko to the world. We are very grateful for the reception it has received from the press, the public and of course, our growing family of Koenigsegg owners.
"
The Jesko is powered by a redesigned twin-turbo V8 engine with a new 180-degree flat-plane crankshaft, new intake, larger air-injected turbos and more precise pressure control.
At the heart of this newly designed engine is the world's lightest production V8 crankshaft. Weighing just 12.5 kilograms, Koenigsegg's new 180-degree flat-plane crankshaft enables the Jesko to produce more power with greater efficiency, while achieving a higher rev limit of 8500rpm.
The crankshaft is milled by a small factory in southern Sweden. It is made to Koenigsegg's in-house design from a single solid billet of high-strength Swedish Dievar steel. The flat design allows for even firing through the engine banks and an even more visceral engine sound. The tendency of flat-plane engines toward increased vibration is countered with active engine mounts used for the first time in the Regera, as well as newly designed super-lightweight connecting rods and pistons.
Koenigsegg has equipped the Jesko with an active adaptive rear steering system that increases responsiveness and elevates precision at both high and low speeds. Using data such as individual wheel speed, steering angle, steering wheel angular velocity, engine speed, lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration and other parameters, the steering system can turn the rear wheels up to three degrees in either direction to speed up cornering and increase agility and stability.
The Koenigsegg Jesko sums up what a racing car can be if it wants to drive on normal roads. With all the equipment imaginable and tremendous performance it is, without a doubt, the car that any enthusiast could want to drive. Come on, all you need is the money. Lots of money, brother.
